Derrumbe [Collapse]. 2024

Sculptural installation formed by 5,000 stacked bricks, that shape the word “derrumbe” (collapse), placed in the water mirror of the monument to the foundation of Monterrey, next to the Nuevo León State Congress and the emblematic and infamous Macroplaza. Part of the collective exhibition Monumentos sin monumentalidad (Monuments without monumentality), a public space, was proposed as a “silent declamation” that points out the fragility of the current political-economic system.

Significantly, climate change affected the piece. It was originally planned to be installed in a dry esplanade, as the monument had been without water for four years due to drought in the region, but in 2024 there were heavy rains that temporarily filled the pond. During the time of the installation the water evaporated. In the last few days it rained again and the pond reappeared. Weeks later, the water evaporated again. After the dismantling of the piece, the legible trace of its presence remained on the site.
